At the beginning of 2017, I played Katie in Teen City Stage’s Regional Premiere of School of Rock. We started rehearsals in October of 2016 at about the same time that I started The Best Christmas Pageant Ever the Musical. Whenever I had a day off from Pageant, I was rehearsing for School of Rock. The year before rehearsals started, I got the amazing opportunity to see School of Rock on Broadway when Alex Brightman and Sierra Boggess were still playing the two leads. I loved the music and immediately wanted to be a part of the show. I heard about an open casting call to play one of the children in the show. I decided to play the bass for the audition… of which I did not even know how to play (yet)! After that audition, I started to actually like the bass guitar and wanted to really learn how to play it. I started taking lessons and then I became a part of a band called “The Visitors” with my friends… So when I heard the Teen City Stage was doing SOR, I was psyched! Katie was my dream role for the show and when I found out that I got it, I was ecstatic! One of my favorite parts of the show is the choreography. The music is very upbeat and our choreographer had us on our feet the entire time. We were allowed to go crazy and jump up and down… it was super fun!!! Our cast was amazing, especially the student band. The band rehearsals were so cool to be a part of. It was a little intimidating to play with the professional band but it was a learning experience. I even got chills at some points just because it was all coming together. Performing School of Rock was probably one of the shows that I’ve had the most fun onstage. I still continue to play bass guitar in the band “The Visitors” and look out for casting calls of School of Rock on Broadway.
